Eileen Hallman – Spinning Judge and Workshop Instructor
Eileen Hallman is a knowledgeable spinner, weaver, and dyer, who specializes in cotton. She is the owner of New World Textiles and has developed a number of products and tools for weavers and spinners, such as the shuttle pictured above, which is designed to hold a charkha spindle, so you can go directly from the charkha to the loom.
Eileen will teach two classes on charkha spinning — one for beginners and the other more advanced. She will also teach a workshop on dyeing with her Dye-licious cotton, and another class on Nui Shibori.
Eileen will also apply her passion and skill for spinning fiber into yarn when she takes on the role as our conference Spinning Judge.
What are the differences between beginner and experienced?
Great question. For clarity, a beginner is someone who either does not know how to use a Charkha at all, or has done very little Charkha spinning. An experienced Charkha spinner is comfortable using a Charkha and does not need to relearn the basics.
